Smart use of memoQ allows you reduce the cost of translation by re-using previous translations and through the effective use of new technologies.
  • Translation memory & LiveDocs corpora
    Translation memories are collections of matching source and target sentences or text segments. As translators translate in memoQ their work is saved in a translation memory. Then, when a similar sentence shows up, or the same or another translator translates a similar document, or an update of the previously translated document, they see and can quickly use the previous translation of identical or similar source sentences. memoQ employs highly efficient algorithms for matching the document to be translated with segments in the translation memory. Aside from significant time and costs savings, this also helps to improve the quality of the final translation. Reports can show you the productivity gain from using translation memories both in an individual setting, before translation, and in a collaborative setting, after translation, detailed by translators.

    LiveDocs is a set of features allowing integrated access to reference materials. You can quickly insert already translated documents into LiveDocs corpora, no matter whether they were translated in a translation tool or they are only available as two documents, for example in Microsoft Word format. You do not have to prepare the alignment, just insert the reference materials and start working on online aligned reference materials with relevant matches for your text. You will immediately see matches from the LiveDocs corpora, and if the alignment is not correct, you or your translators can fix it on the fly. By default, matching segments from the aligned LiveDocs corpora, which may or may not need to be corrected by a translator, count as 85% matches in the analysis. However, there is no need to align your translations into translation memories if you are just starting out with translation technology. What’s more is that you can also use LiveDocs corpora for completed documents instead of translation memories: it is much easier to maintain LiveDocs than TMs. Reports show that users make significant productivity gains from using LiveDocs corpora.
  • Machine translation
    The memoQ server is integrated with a number of machine translation engines including Asia Online, Google MT, Microsoft Bing MT, LetsMT, Kantan MT, Crosslang Gateway MT, You can pre-translate segments that do not have an exact or good match from the translation memory or LiveDocs corpus. We also provide a software development kit that allows other MT vendors to integrate their engine with memoQ. The memoQ technology supports you in machine translation evaluation and post-editing, as well as providing extensive and meaningful reports to support you in your deployment of machine translation technology.
  • Smart translation
    Translators come across many things which are always translated in a certain way, as well as also phrases which are always left in their original language. Similarly, numbers, dates and times are formatted differently from one locale to another. memoQ allows the automatic translation of certain phrases, numbers, dates, times and much more. It also allows the project manager to specify certain phrases and words which should not be translated. You can quickly convert all number-only segments into the target language and also automatically convert catalog-like text such as "100% cotton" into the target language through fragment assembly. You can also ensure that the translator does not alter placeholders or product IDs, and even reduce the word count where justified through regular expression-based tagging.

  • Project templates and workflow automation
    Project templates greatly speed up the process of creating a project in memoQ.  Project templates and workflow automation save up to 80% of the clicks involved in setting up and managing a project. They completely automate the management of recurring project types, while paying attention to specific details of each project. This saves project manager training time and improves the quality of your processes. The average company needs five to ten different templates to cover most of their localization processes. Our consultants can assist you in creating these templates.
  • Content connectors
    If a process relies too heavily on manual steps, it will take longer. If it takes longer, it will cost more. One step which can save precious time to your processes is taking the documents from your production system and adding them to a project on the memoQ server. memoQ’s content connectors automate this process. A company can implement a workflow where a file is automatically placed on a file server, where it is then automatically detected by memoQ and added to a designated project. Resources are automatically assigned, documents are automatically prepared and then, when complete, the finished documents are automatically exported. The memoQ server supports work with many Content Management Systems via content connectors and possible third-party software.

    If you outsource all your translation work, you can use the memoQ server or memoQ cloud server to assign projects to your translation vendors. Vendors can work online on your server or be given packages, and in both cases your translation memories will be updated once they deliver their translations. Quality management is crucial to the translation process. memoQ offers a range of functions to help you manage quality, check consistency and ensure the use of the correct terminology.
  • Linguistic QA
    Many companies who put a lot of work into managing quality have difficulties demonstrating this added-value to their management. The linguistic QA functionality makes it easy to use an existing quality model, such as the LISA QA model, SAE J2450 or TAUS DQF error typology, or create your own. Once you have done this, the linguistic QA model can be shared among the project management team and all projects can be tested against it. Reviewers can categorize errors and you can show both aggregated and itemized reports about error types. Further, you can connect automated quality assurance checks to LQA error categories, thus making review even easier. This provides an effective way of managing quality and showing your customers what you are doing, and even how you are doing it.
  • Terminology management
    Do you like to keep things simple or do you crave sophistication? The memoQ server's built-in terminology module is very simple to use and set up, and is completely sufficient if you don't have sophisticated terminology workflows - it even supports moderated terminology, which means that any translator can add terms, but the terminologist or the reviewer needs to approve terms in order for them to become final. You can quickly extract terminology from your existing documents or translation memories using memoQ's built-in term extraction module, and this is probably the best thing you can do to start improving translation processes and quality in your company. qTerm is Kilgray’s professional terminology management system and is an add-on to memoQ server. qTerm runs in a browser and it can manage the terminology for organizations of any size. qTerm is integrated seamlessly with memoQ and memoQ server. Provided the translator or reviewer has appropriate rights, they can add or edit terms from within memoQ. Terminology entries can be customized, terms linked with each other and discussed, and all changes to the term base are audited, so a change history can be accessed at any time. No matter which terminology module you are using, you can import glossaries and term bases from Microsoft Excel, CSV, TBX or MultiTerm XML formats, and check if terms have been used correctly. Term bases also speed up your work as matches are automatically suggested and quickly inserted. The memoQ server is also integrated with external terminology tools such as the TaaS only terminology platform. memoQ's term recognition tool also works well with morphologically complex languages.
  • Translation consistency
    The bigger the project, the harder it is to ensure consistency, especially when several vendors are working on it. Terminology and recurring phrases must be applied consistently. memoQ helps you achieve this: you can import, use and quickly build your own term bases and glossaries. You can also indicate if a term is forbidden in the target language and memoQ will check all occurrences, and you can immediately see term candidates through the amazing automatic concordance and term extraction features. Find and replace can also be used on multiple files at the same time. All of these are available in a collaborative setting. The search tool can be used to quickly find particular expressions in your translation memories and LiveDocs corpora – and if these are big enough, memoQ can even highlight the suggested translation. Quality assurance also automatically highlights both segment and term consistency issues.
  • Automated quality assurance
    Project managers can run automated quality assurance reports that identify machine-detectable errors, such as missing terms on the source or target side, use of forbidden terms, number mismatch or wrong number format, punctuation errors, formatting errors, capitalization and whitespace errors, translation consistency errors, or potential errors where a translation memory match was inserted but then edited (if it shouldn't have been edited), or inserted but not edited (if it should have been edited). You can export these reports into HTML format and ask your vendors to fix the issues or indicate false warnings. You can also use the automated QA to help the reviewer in their work.

We can be as fast as you are. memoQ is used by over a thousand companies, so we have built all the minimum-loss data migration tools, all the basic workflows, created filters that can support the most demanding custom file formats, and we don't even charge for these. You just need to know where your legacy data are: your previous translations, your glossaries, your translation memories if you have used a translation management system before. If you share a couple of sample files, we can get you up and running in two online meetings. Less than 1% of our enterprise customers require any development to deploy the tool.     If you encounter any problem, a team of eight people is here to help you. The front line support team answers support queries from 8 AM Central European Time to 5 PM US Eastern Time (11 PM Central European Time) on Monday to Friday and from 10 AM to 6 PM Central European Time on Saturday. If support requests reach a peak, an additional eight people come on board to help out. We also answer emergency support queries on Sundays. For more complex support issues, there is also a number of people who work on second level and developer support. While others talk about 24/7 support, we prefer to get your issues resolved fast rather than have exhausted support engineers.
