The world of metadata

In addition to segments and terms, memoQ offers a wide range of ways to add and use metadata, i.e. data about the translation data. One of the most useful functionalities of metadata is to filter a list of entries or to apply a penalty on a match. The presentation will show the different areas where metadata can be added and how it can be used within memoQ itself.

The presentation will touch upon the different types of metadata (on container level or on project/segment/term level) as well as the things that can be done with metadata. For example:

Part 1 - where is metadata added and how can it be used
  • Filtering projects by the fields project, client, domain, subject, description
  • Adding metadata to segments in the TM and use it for filters and penalties
  • Adding keywords in LiveDocs and using them for penalties
  • Adding metadata to terms and use them for filtering the term list or when exporting a term base (internal term base and QTerm)
  • How templates use metadata to attach the correct TMs, term bases automatically to a project
Part 2 - metadata exchange between tools
Examples of TMX files and XLIFF files from other tools will show what kind of metadata can travel between other tools and memoQ, like:
  • comments in translation files
  • tracked changes in translation files
  • custom-defined metadata in translation memory files
