Upcoming technical changes in memoQ 12.0 – What you need to know
September 17, 2025
In preparation for the release of memoQ version 12.0, we want to give you some information on the bigger technical changes coming. memoQ 12.0 will introduce some compatibility breaks and require some of our users to take actions before upgrading.
Starting with memoQ 12.0, a new communication port (8086) will be introduced between the memoQ desktop and server.
If you are using a desktop client to connect to a memoQ server, then you’ll need to make sure that the port 8086 is opened and forwarded similarly to port 2705.
If you host your own memoQ server, you can configure this in the memoQ TMS Deployment Tool. This option is labeled ‘memoQ Desktop API’ in the Deployment Tool. As this port is also set in the memoQ client we recommend not changing the port, unless necessary. By default, a self-signed certificate will be created there, which you can change.
If you have memoQ cloud, these will be set automatically for you on the server side.
Classic TM creation will be turned off starting with memoQ 12.0
If you attempt to create a Classic TM, a TM+ memory will be created instead. This includes project templates, packages, WSAPI, and any other TM creation.
User interface options for creating Classic TMs will be turned off.
TM+ does not support the combination of ‘Allow multiple translation’ with ‘Simple context’ or ‘Double context’. If a Classic TM creation includes these options, ‘Allow multiple translation’ will be ignored when creating the TM+ memory.
No existing Classic TMs will be converted to TM+. Your existing Classic TMs will continue to work as in previous versions.
TM+ Engine (RocksDB) version has been upgraded
The only way to access a TM+ in an older version is to export that TM+ from memoQ 12.0 into TMX, and import into a new Translation Memory which was created in an older version.
This only affects users running multiple memoQ desktop versions simultaneously.
For other users this change will be completely seamless.
Any new TM+ created in memoQ 12.0 will not work in older versions.
Any TM+ opened or modified in memoQ 12.0 will be automatically updated and will no longer be compatible with older versions.
