Floating Licenses

With memoQ server an organization can dispose of a pool of translator licenses that can be assigned and returned anytime. You can assign licenses to contractors for the time span of a translation project, and have them automatically returned at the end of it. If they already have memoQ, you don't have to pay for their access. See how enterprise licensing management works in this guide.

Choose your interface

memoQ server has a desktop and a web version. Our web version can be easily accessed through a URL by both the owners of the server and the translators assigned to the jobs. This web interface also works in browsers under other operating systems such as Linux or Mac OS.

Handling large projects: collaboration, compliance and control

Enterprises often run into large translation projects with short deadlines. memoQ server speeds up localization by allowing multiple translators and reviewers to work on projects simultaneously. They can share translation memories, term bases, reference materials in the form of corpora, and also communicate with project managers and get clarifications from customers through a discussion forum. This provides your localization team with a competitive edge for fast deliveries.

Besides gaining efficiency, companies need to remain compliant with their own security specifications, quality management or regulatory guidelines. memoQ server provides effective ways to audit localization efforts by keeping track of changes through projects, versioning and history in files and team discussions, and permissions management. Do not think further about ISO compliant processes: just get started with memoQ server.

memoQ server also supports encrypted communication for those organizations where information security is a top requirement. The server can be set up to use TLS or HTTPS to encrypt data transferred.

Our users love memoQ

It's no big secret that users love memoQ and the benefits it brings to their business.  memoQ helps them by cutting translation costs and time, increasing translation quality and centralizing all translation resources under a single platform. It’s not just us saying this, it is actually them!

Licensing & Deployment Options

The memoQ server is available in three deployment and two licensing options.

Deployment Options

  • Cloud: The memoQ server runs in the cloud (see memoQ cloud page for more details). You can choose geographically among three different regional centers, to access infrastructure close to them. One of these centers resides in Europe, while the other two are located in MS Azure Japan East and West US, to bring memoQ among the most reliable SaaS products. The memoQ server in the cloud deployment is particularly suitable for smaller teams. It has been designed to provide a quick and powerful solution not only to companies but also to ad hoc teams of translators.

  • Hosting services from memoQ Ltd: Our IT Services team provides dedicated Azure servers and manage the hosting full-service. All maintenance responsibilities are shifted to us. This eliminates extra work hours and downtime that might have been necessary to upgrade software. In many ways, this option combines some key benefits of the cloud (no need for IT resources inhouse) with the robustness and security of an on-premises deployment.

  • On-premises: memoQ is installed and runs on computers on the premises of the organization using our software. This is recommended for businesses that have IT know-how and human resources to manage a server onsite or organizations who have IT security policies in place that don’t allow deployment off-?

Licensing Options

The memoQ server can be obtained with two distinct licensing options:

Perpetual license: A perpetual license is the traditional model used to purchase software. You pay for your software license up-front and have the right to use the purchased version indefinitely. Along with this license, we provide a technical support period of one year. After one year, customers may purchase SMA – Support and Maintenance Agreement – for a fee that provides continuous access to Support and the ability to download new versions of the software (memoQ is on a frequent release cycle. Read more about it here: https://www.memoq.com/en/frequent-release-policy). Customers also have the option to pay for ad-hoc implementation or tech consulting services.

2) Subscription (Software as a Service): A monthly or annual licensing model, allowing you to pay essentially a per user fee. You will pay an initial subscription upfront, and are entitled to use the software only during the subscription term, unlike a perpetual license, allowing you to use the purchased version of the software indefinitely. The subscription payment includes software licenses, access to support services and new versions of our software as they are released. Subscribers are always up-to-date and they get the latest and most complete applications. See memoQ cloud page for more details.

Localization management for enterprises

Consumers all over the globe are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their purchasing habits. Studies show that even if English is spreading fast to every country, most people still prefer to purchase goods and services in their own language. To become a global brand, companies need to reach out to new audiences and invest in localization as content needs to be presented in the local language of the targeted market.

memoQ server empowers enterprises by allowing them to run multilingual localization processes in a fully centralized and automated environment.

Strengthen your brand through terminology management

As you expand towards new markets, you will need to explore new avenues for advertising and adapt your communication into local cultures. This is far from simple, and while trying to capture new audiences, your brand’s image and message could be easily loosened.

What can terminology management do for you? It allows you to keep your brand and message consistent not only in one language, but through all languages your organization operates in. It allows companies to ensure users a local brand experience while keeping core corporate messages constant. To guarantee quality, an organization's terminology has to be carefully localized to the target language and culture. It also needs to be properly stored, managed and shared.

memoQ server enables two levels for terminology management: The first is a simple inbuilt module that works through term bases with multiple functionalities. The second is a sophisticated module that provides a single point of access to terminology within an organization and which turns terminology into a corporate asset that facilitates internal and external communication. This latter one is called QTerm and it is an add-on to memoQ server.

The memoQ server also supports term extraction.

Controlled scalability

The more markets you want to penetrate, the more you need to localize. But if left unplanned, localization can turn into a cost center. Businesses need a localization management and reporting system as they find themselves with expanding teams in multiple locations and an increasing number of releases.
memoQ server supports scaling efforts by removing manual processes in localization that are time-consuming such as file management or extensive mailing communication between translators and project managers. If Integrated to Language Terminal, memoQ server also provides PMs with a full overview of the localization workflow, the vendors they work with and the cost that each of them represents to their organization.

See other benefits of memoQ server for enterprises here.

Localization management for translation companies

Managing projects is the core activity of translation companies. Traditionally, a successful translation company depended on skilled project managers to hold everything together. With memoQ server, translation companies can afford to rely less on the individual skills of project managers as the translation management system allows even junior PMs to run projects efficiently.

Custom automated workflows

Project templates and workflow automation can save up to 80% of the clicks involved in setting up and managing a project, while retaining flexibility. Automating the management of recurring project types will also save the project manager training time and improve the quality of your processes. The overall goal is to reduce human intervention in the process, which will be only required at the start and end of the project.

Other features that support automation:
  • Automatic, customizable e-mail notifications
  • Slicing of the project: PMs can divide projects and documents between translators
  • Project overview through a centralized dashboard
  • Resources centralization: Get your translation memories, term bases, LiveDocs corpora, filter configurations, auto-translation rules and more from a single point of access.

Compatibility with other tools

In the past, translation companies often used more than one translation environment because their various customers owned different tools and wanted their work delivered in a particular format. Because of the number and diversity of systems and formats available, openness and online collaboration have become key elements of our technological offering.

memoQ can be your single server-based translation management system because it is compatible with most other CAT tools and can work with and output to an extensive number of languages and file formats.

The memoQ plugin for SDL Trados Studio has taken compatibility to the next level, since it allows Trados Studio user access to translation memories from a memoQ server.

Terminology management for translation companies

memoQ server's built-in terminology module is simple to use and set up, and is enough if your terminology workflows are not too complex - it even supports moderated terminology, which means that any translator can add terms, but the terminologist or the reviewer needs to approve terms in order for them to become final.

QTerm is Kilgray’s professional terminology management system and is an add-on to memoQ server. QTerm runs in a web browser and it can manage terminology for organizations of any size. It is integrated seamlessly with memoQ server.

Get productive immediately: LiveDocs

LiveDocs is an alternative to translation memories which keeps your translation content structured and organized. It allows for the reuse of previous material based on the entire corpus rather than segments. This is the technology that gets you started with memoQ faster than with any other tool. You just need to import the source and target documents and memoQ will process it so that every source sentence has a target equivalent. Then the translator is made aware of the reference material as they translate and will get TM like matches out of it.

Quality reporting: better safe than sorry

How many times have you complained over unintelligible guides for using a piece of software? A poor translation can have an immediate impact on your products' user acceptance. When exploring new markets, you want to make sure your company meets the quality expectations of your new target audience in every possible way.

Localization projects need to go through quality assurance workflows to avoid mistakes that can cause embarrassment to your brand. But how can your organization measure quality assurance in localization projects? memoQ server provides PMs with a series of reports to spot quality issues on time and take early action.

Automate Quality Assurance

memoQ has sophisticated quality control functionality. Quality checks include seven categories: Segments and terms, Consistency, Numbers, Punctuation, Spelling and grammar, Inline tags and Length. These are customizable and can be used for the translation memory as well as documents. The QA functionality also offers an easy and intuitive way to find and fix the errors or ignore ones that are not relevant. QA checks can be run at any stage during a project.

Linguistic Quality Assurance

If you need to quantify your quality, memoQ server can help you do this. Define your own error categories and allow reviewers to evaluate them. Use error points to see how your vendors improve over time. Give them feedback by allowing them to see what they did wrong. Using LQA, you can quantify and give information to your customers or managers.

memoQ server also supports quality modules such as LISA, SAE J2450 or the TAUS DQF error typology.

Discussing quality issues

memoQ’s effective discussion management allows translators or reviewers to mark source or target quality issues, and start a discussion straight from the translation interface. Discussions are then assigned to the right people. Translators can ask for context clarification, report a typo or a malformed or ambiguous source sentence, check the meaning or discuss terminology. These requests can be addressed to the relevant people – even outside the localization team.

Integrations with memoQ server

memoQ server enables numerous integrations with business management tools, machine translation engines, external translation memory databases, among others. Through its Web Service API external applications can integrate their functionality with the memoQ server.
