Goals

Gameloft needed a scalable localization platform to support live game localization across 15+ languages, including frequent updates, patches, marketing assets, and websites. The goal was to centralize workflows, improve efficiency, and maintain consistent quality across titles.

Challenges

Challenges

Before memoQ TMS, handling large volumes of complex, tagged game files required significant manual effort and was prone to errors. Fragmented workflows and support for many file formats made it difficult to scale localization while keeping releases fast and consistent.

Using memoQ TMS, Gameloft reduced manual effort by 30% through automation and TM reuse. memoQ AGT further boosted productivity by reducing effort on high-fuzzy matches. The team now delivers faster, safer releases, supporting large-scale live game projects with millions of words and hundreds of files.

“As our games and content volumes continue to grow, memoQ TMS remains critical to our long-term scalability and competitiveness, supporting both everyday localization work and the ongoing success of our live titles.”

A Long-Term Localization Platform for Live Games

Gameloft has been using memoQ TMS for seven years as the core platform for game localization across more than 15 languages. What began as a gradual rollout has evolved into a long-term setup that supports both day-to-day needs and future growth. Over time, Gameloft expanded its memoQ environment with additional project manager and translator licenses, content connectors, Qterm, and API access. Today, all new game projects run on memoQ, with older long-running titles steadily being migrated to the platform.

Centralized Localization for Live Content

memoQ TMS supports Gameloft’s daily localization work for game content, live operations updates, patches, marketing assets, and websites, while enabling smooth collaboration with external linguists and language service providers. It connects directly to development repositories, handles complex file structures, enables translation memory reuse, supports efficient terminology management, and performs QA checks. In addition, automation, templates, and reusable workflows significantly reduce manual tasks such as file handling and progress tracking, helping Gameloft work faster while maintaining consistent terminology and tone across frequent updates and releases of various titles.

Overcoming Complexity and Scale

Before memoQ, working with large volumes of tagged game files was time-consuming and error-prone. memoQ now enables Gameloft to process hundreds of files reliably while preserving tags, variables, and file structure, making releases faster and safer. Fragmented workflows were replaced with centralized project tracking and automated setup, while support for formats such as JSON, XML, PO, XLIFF, YAML, subtitles, multilingual Excel files, and proprietary game formats ensures flexibility. Centralized translation memories and term bases provide long-term linguistic consistency across live titles.

memoQ TMS at the Core of Gameloft’s Localization Setup

memoQ sits at the core of Gameloft’s localization setup, connecting project managers, linguists, and external vendors in a single environment. It centralizes linguistic resources, supports multiple file formats, and provides real-time project visibility. Its customizability and API support allow memoQ to adapt to Gameloft’s internal tools and different team workflows, helping ensure consistency while maintaining flexibility.

Built for AAA Live Game Localization

memoQ works well for AAA live game localization, keeping complex workflows organized while supporting collaboration across teams with very different ways of working. Gameloft originally chose memoQ for its user-friendly interface, low learning curve for linguists, and the option to deploy it in-house. As games and content volumes continue to grow, memoQ remains critical to Gameloft’s long-term scalability and competitiveness, supporting both everyday localization work and the ongoing success of live titles.

Delivering 2+ Million Words in 7 Languages

memoQ enables Gameloft to manage large game localization projects at scale, including its largest project, Disney Dreamlight Valley, with over 2 million words across more than 700 JSON fileslocalized into seven languages and continuously growing. Managing content at this scale would not be possible without a robust localization platform. Furthermore, memoQ’s Git content connector plays a key role by connecting localization directly to development, enabling faster iteration, reliable version handling, and smoother collaboration throughout ongoing development and live updates.

Productivity Gains with memoQ AGT

memoQ AGT has become a valuable addition to Gameloft’s workflows, helping scale localization while maintaining high quality. By leveraging context from translation memories, LiveDocs, term bases, and existing content within memoQ, AGT delivers more relevant suggestions than traditional machine translation. Used primarily for high-fuzzy matches, it requires no model training, reduces post-editing effort, keeps translators in control, and allows them to focus on refining translations rather than fixing basic issues.

Measurable Efficiency and Quality Improvements

Using memoQ TMS, Gameloft achieved a significant productivity increase through automation, centralized workflows, and translation memory reuse, reducing manual effort by approximately 30%. This allowed teams to spend more time focusing on quality, resulting in fewer QA issues, less rework, and a more consistent in-game voice across languages. These gains also led to faster turnaround times and improved cost efficiency.

A Trusted Long-Term Partner

Gameloft’s experience with memoQ’s Business Services and Training teams has been consistently very positive. From onboarding through ongoing optimization, the teams have been responsive, knowledgeable, and supportive. memoQ academy courses and tailored training helped Gameloft’s teams ramp up quickly and make better use of advanced features over time, reinforcing memoQ’s role as a long-term partner that understands real localization needs.
