Bring-your-own-key LLM translation, built by a top-ranked LSP

Hansem AI Translate is a signed private machine-translation (MT) plugin for memoQ, developed by Hansem Global, Korea’s #1-ranked language service provider and a memoQ user for many years. The plugin connects memoQ directly to the large-language-model (LLM) provider of your choice — OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), or Google Gemini — using an API key that you supply and control. Hansem doesn’t operate an MT engine of its own; instead, the plugin is a lightweight, generic bridge that lets memoQ users route segments straight to the LLM backend they already trust.

How it works with memoQ

Hansem AI Translate installs as an MT provider inside memoQ desktop, and can also be deployed in memoQ TMS or webTrans for pre-translation. Once configured, translators work exactly as they would with any other MT engine in the Translation Results pane. The plugin simply determines which LLM API each segment is sent to, using the credentials the user has entered.

Because it is a bring-your-own-key connector rather than a hosted MT service, there is no intermediate translation server in the loop: segments travel directly from the translator’s machine to the selected provider’s API, authenticated with the user’s own key, and the response is returned straight back into memoQ.

How translation data flows

Data handling is a central part of the plugin’s design:

  • Segments go directly from the user’s machine to the chosen LLM provider’s API — never through a Hansem-operated server
  • Requests are authenticated with the user’s own API key for that provider
  • The plugin sends no telemetry
  • Because requests run on your own provider account, data-retention and training terms are the ones set out in your own agreement with that provider

This makes the plugin a good fit for organizations that want LLM-quality translation while keeping full control over which provider processes their content and under what data terms.

Who is it for

  • Enterprise and LSP teams who already have API access to OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), or Google Gemini and want to use that access natively inside memoQ, without adopting a separate hosted MT platform
  • Organizations with strict data-handling requirements, such as those in regulated or confidential-content industries, that need translation content to stay off third-party MT servers and go directly to a provider under a no-training agreement
  • memoQ users working across multilingual content and global language programs who want to integrate generative AI directly into their translation workflows. Hansem’s production use to date has focused primarily on Korean, Japanese, Chinese, Vietnamese, and English, while the plugin itself supports the full language set available through the memoQ SDK.
