After deploying memoQ into their localization workflow, Playrix increased efficiency and work quality by almost 30%. Since then, they have been able to resolve and prevent many consistency-related issues.

“We decided to implement a CAT system to streamline our processes and boost quality. Thanks to memoQ, we’ve been able to resolve and prevent many consistency-related issues. Plus, its numerous features and user-friendly interface make working on assignments more efficient than ever before.”

Great Games Need Top Localization

Consistency is one of the cornerstones of any large localization workflow. When you’re working with 17 languages and a wide variety of games, being consistent is a headache on its own — until memoQ comes along. Dmitry is going to show us how that works at Playrix.

Meet Dmitry, Localization Project Manager at Playrix, one of the world’s leading mobile game developers:

“We’re developing some of the best gaming products on the market, which is why top quality is our standard,” Dmitry explains, going on to make his point absolutely clear. “That approach applies to all aspects of our work, including localization, since it is one of the key factors ensuring our titles’ popularity all over the world.”

Dmitry’s department is a major operation:

“At the moment, our localization department provides full-cycle localization of all our titles into 17 languages. But that wasn’t possible until we decided to reconsider the way we do things. Way back when, we housed our workflow in spreadsheets, which made the process complicated and time-consuming.”

Spreadsheets are a temporary solution at best, with so many variables that can go haywire. The workload, too, can be tedious and overwhelming when you’re looking at large texts localized into so many languages. Dmitry’s team had a better idea.

“We decided to implement a CAT system to streamline our processes and boost quality. Thanks to memoQ, we’ve been able to resolve and prevent many consistency-related issues. Plus, its numerous features and user-friendly interface make working on assignments more efficient than ever before.”

How memoQ Helped Playrix’s Game Localization Team?

So what are the most important features of a comprehensive system like memoQ when it comes to a busy game localization team? Let’s see what the team at Playrix thinks.

“We consider the built-in glossary one of its best features. It helps us handle all in-game terms, regardless of the context they’re used in or their grammatical forms, meaning that ensuring overall consistency is now a piece of cake.

Another handy feature is the translation memories. They save our translators time by identifying strings of identical or similar text, even across different projects.

As for performance, spreadsheets are no match for memoQ: the concordance feature helps you find any text you’re looking for, while the built-in statistics and user/task control tools help organize the localization process. On top of that, using inline tags relegated text-generated in-game issues to the ash heap of history. Ultimately, memoQ helped us increase the efficiency and quality of our work by almost 30%.”

Thumbs up to seamless localization from Dmitry (on the bottom right) and his dream team of linguists.

Infor’s statistical machine translation (SMT) struggled with unrelated language pairs (like English to Japanese) and disfluent translations. Limited training data caused terminology issues when combining datasets, making it hard to maintain consistency across projects.

Infor

As Infor’s preferred machine translation provider, globalese by memoQ has been a reliable and strong partner for almost a decade now, allowing our department to speed up the translation process of new and recurring — often large — projects while maintaining structural, terminological, and overall linguistic correctness.
