Goals

Goals

To achieve accuracy and consistency across highly technical mine action documentation, where a single mistranslated term in a technical document or standard operating procedure can have real consequences in the field.

Challenges

Challenges

Large volumes of terminology-dense, brand-new material that had to remain consistent throughout every document, coupled with heavy repetition that made manual translation time-consuming for FSD’s team.

With memoQ and its AGT technology, FSD reduced translation and review time by 2.5 times, reduced post-editing effort significantly, and reached terminology consistency of close to 100%

“After several months of working with memoQ and its AGT technology, we cut our translation and review time by almost three times, while the post-editing effort dropped significantly. Even with large volumes of brand-new, terminology-dense material that is uncommon in the demining field, we moved through it far faster than we could have done manually or with any other environment. On top of that, memoQ gave our project easier, more accurate translation and management, both internally, externally, and across our multilingual team; it has made a real difference in keeping terminology consistent, no matter who is translating.”

Interpreter at FSD

The Challenge

The main difficulty was the scale of the documents. They were saturated with terminology that had to stay consistent throughout the entire translation, and repetitions that were a very time-consuming part of the process.

Why memoQ?

memoQ was not the first translation tool FSD used. Other tools were eliminated one by one because of various drawbacks. Comparatively, memoQ’s strongest advantages are its user-friendly interface and ease of use; it works properly out of the box, without endless hours of setup.

How memoQ AGT Made the Difference

Large volumes of text are no longer intimidating. With memoQ AGT integrated into the memoQ environment, the team can minimize effort and reduce review time. Repetitions are now far easier to handle. Previously, a lot of time was lost adjusting fuzzy matches and recognition rules that never worked perfectly, but AGT now adapts automatically to the translator’s style. Terminology drift is neutralized. When working with large documents, having terminology suggestions on hand, together with AGT’s consistency, keeps everything aligned. Separating documentation into different projects helps keep the workspace organized and easy to manage.

Fitting Into the Workflow

Getting started in memoQ is easy. Once a Project Manager receives a task, it is loaded into the corresponding project, where the settings are already optimized to that particular file. And, if a task is too big for one person, it can quickly be sent out to other translators without delay.

Results

Recently, FSD had a large project that needed to be translated quickly. Using memoQ, the team completed it in just a couple of months while keeping terminology consistent and accurate, work that would have taken far more time manually. Compared to manual translation, memoQ sped things up enormously. With memoQ AGT, the team worked almost 2.5 times faster than with memoQ alone. Post-editing effort was minimized, and terminology consistency peaked at almost 100%.

Support and Onboarding

memoQ’s technical support is second to none. Every technical issue the team has encountered has been addressed promptly and resolved quickly.
